CGU-HS CommitteesThe CGU-HS has several sub-committees in areas of interest to HS members. These committees work to advance scientific knowledge and application of research in their field, and often arrange special sessions at CGU meetings. For more information, contact the Chair of the committee, or see the committee reports on the Publications page Wetland hydrology committeeChair: Mike Waddington, School of Geography and Earth Sciences, McMaster UniversityObjectives: Advance the science of wetland hydrology in Canada and connect researchers involved in this field. Erosion and sedimentation committeeChair: Peter Ashmore, Dept. of Geography, University of Western OntarioObjectives: the scientific advancement and practical application of knowledge of erosion, transport and deposition of sediment in fresh water systems - topic coverage similar to that of the IAHS Commissions on Continental Erosion some aspects of Water Quality Glaciers and environment committeeChair: Mike Demuth, Glaciology Section, Geological Survey of CanadaObjectives: Assist the CGU and its executive in promoting glaciological research that is relevant to hydrological and environmental problems Northern research basins committeeChair: Chris Spence, Environment Canada, SaskatoonObjectives: to participate in the International Northern Research Basins (NRB) working group, by sending delegates to annual workshops Forest hydrology committeeChair: Jim Buttle, Department of Geography, Trent UniversityObjectives: Promoting and advancing forest hydrology across Canada and the presence of Canadian forest hydrologists internationally. Committee on river ice processes and the environmentChair: Brian Morse, Department of Civil & Water Engineering, Laval UniversityObjectives: Initially, the Committee’s work focused on the hydraulic aspects of river ice phenomena as a means of elucidating the effects of ice cover on flow characteristics. This scope has expanded to include additional issues of concern, such as ice formation, ice jams, winter operation of hydro-plants, environmental aspects of river ice, and climatic variability and change. Committee on isotope tracersChair: Jean Birks, Alberta Research Council, University of WaterlooObjectives: promote and advance the understanding and application of isotopic tracer techniques in hydrology and related sciences Canadian National Committee for the IAHS Prediction in Ungauged Basins Initiative (CNC-PUB)Chair: Chris Spence, Environment Canada, SaskatoonObjectives: To coordinate and communicate IAHS’s PUB program in Canada. |
